This new service is available in conjunction with the government’s Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI) roll-out, it is an expansion of the 3G/4G mobile network technology. We can provide RBI connections to your home or business if you are within suitable coverage of an RBI capable cell tower.

RBI service speeds can vary depending on location, cell tower resources available and the current uptake of the service in your area.

An external fixed aerial will be installed on your roof and aligned to a nearby RBI cell tower, from there a cable is run down to an RBI FWT modem/router situated in your house.

Add the RBI with Voice phone option to your connection or come over to VoIP – the choice is yours.

RBI speed can vary depending on many factors including location, cell tower proximity, cell tower resources and uptake in your area, signal quality to your property, etc. RBI speeds are delivered at the highest available speed given the factors above.
* 3G/4G plans allow for the faster 4G connectivity where available (not available on all sites), otherwise service is 3G.
** RBI Enhanced Plans are available for 3G services only; additionally there is limited availability of RBI Enhanced Plans per cell tower and not available on all cell towers. RBI with Voice is not available on RBI Enhanced Plans.

Increase Your Monthly Data

You can increase your monthly plan’s data allocation for $15.00 /month per 10 GB.

Any monthly data change is for a minimum 2 month period.
You can increase your monthly data size by as many data increments as required.

Automated Data Block

If you exceed your monthly plan’s data allocation during any month and decide not to increase your monthly data size, you will incur automated data blocks at $1.75 per 1 GB on a per event basis.

RBI with Voice phone lines are delivered over the RBI 3G GSM infrastructure.

Includes Unlimited calling to all landlines nationwide (max 2 hours per call then charged at the per minute national landline rates).
Please note calls to mobiles and international destinations as well as calling line features are additional charge.

Required Equipment

To connect to the RBI network, you need a Scorch FWT Router and Antenna which is supplied to you by Scorch. This equipment remains the property of Scorch.

Installation Cost

This covers the installation of the Scorch FWT Router (with antenna) and the cabling from the antenna to the FWT Router inside your house: $249.00 $199.00 plus travel from your regions base
– Includes a maximum cable run of 10 metres from the roof mounted antenna to the Scorch FWT Router located inside the house.

Non-standard Roof Mounting Kit (depending on roof type and mounting location) and longer cable runs are additional.

“No Antenna” Connections

In some cases your property may be within approved “no antenna” coverage zones. If this is the case the installation process is simplified as a full onsite installation is not required. We simply courier the Scorch FWT Router to you, which is then plugged in and activated over the phone.
$75.00 connection fee (+postage) under standard conditions.

We will always check the “no antenna” coverage first and advise if this is an option.

Contract Term

RBI Plans are on a minimum 24 month contract.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

24 Month Contract Disconnection Fee

The following disconnection fees apply for all RBI (Rural Broadband Initiative) Plans on a minimum 24 month contract term.

If you have been connected for:

  • Less than 6 months – $399.00
  • Between 7-12 months – $299.00
  • Between 13-24 months – $199.00
  • Greater than 24 months (requiring engineer onsite to uninstall) – $100.00
  • Greater than 24 months (customer to uninstall and return to Scorch within 14 days) – $25.00

 

Farm / Dairy Worker Contract Options

We understand a lot of Farm and Dairy Workers are on 12 month contracts themselves. We are happy to discuss your options and work with you to come up with solution that is suitable to all parties.

RBI with Voice Details

RBI with Voice phone lines are delivered over the RBI 3G GSM infrastructure.

Includes Unlimited calling to all landlines nationwide (max 2 hours per call then charged at the per minute national landline rates – for example a 150 minute call to a national landline will have 30 minutes of usage charged at per minute rate).
Please note calls to mobiles and international destinations as well as calling line features are an additional charge as detailed below.

 

Number Port

Want to keep your existing number? No problem. You will be able to port an existing copper line number to your RBI with Voice calling service. There are no charges to port a number.

 

Calling Features

Call Divert – $4.09 per month
Divert calls to another number of your choice. Diverted calls are charged at standard calling rates.
Call Waiting – $4.09 per month
Lets you know when someone is trying to reach you when you’re already on the phone.
Digital Voice Mail – $7.16 per month
Anyone trying to reach you can leave a message without you needing a conventional answer phone.
Caller ID – Included Free
Lets a user see who is calling. A compatible phone is necessary to use this feature. Can be removed from a connection by request.

 

Calling Rates

Calls over 2 hours – $0.24 per minute beyond 2 hours
Calls to NZ mobiles – $0.36 per minute

Unlimited Calls to landlines in 21 countries* (max 2 hours per call then charged at the per minute national and international landlines rates detailed here ).
*Includes NZ, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and USA.

 

Important Considerations

You will need to keep a copper landline phone if you use (or intend to use):

– A medic alarm link through a phone line
– Fixed line broadband or dial up
– Fax
– EFTPOS
– A monitored building alarm through a phone line
– The SKY remote to download SKY “pay per view” movies or games, or SKY betting. You can
still order SKY “pay per view” movies or games by calling SKY TV
– 3 way calling or audio conference features

 

RBI with Voice calling service requires mains power. In the event of a power failure, the service will not be available, including access to emergency services.

 

RBI with Voice calling service works over the 3G GSM network. A connection enabled for 4G data will operate on the 3G data network where a voice call is occurring at the same time as an open data session.

 

RBI with Voice supports a single phone number / line only. This is connected to the Scorch FWT Router phone port. You can connect a DECT base unit that supports multiple handsets to the Scorch FWT Router phone port.

 

Another option is at your request our installers can also intercept the copper landline connection coming into your property and connect to the Scorch FWT Router phone port, this connects your house phone wiring infrastructure to the RBI with Voice calling service. There is an additional time/material cost for our installers to complete this change for you.

 

For new phone lines you will be assigned a local number based on your physical address.

 

You will need to dial the area code when calling locally, for example when calling within Canterbury you will need to dial the “03” before the number.

 

Coverage

We can provide RBI connections to your home or business if you are within suitable coverage of an RBI capable cell tower, while final coverage is intended to be nationwide there is a staged roll-out currently in place, simply check with us to find out if coverage is available at your location.

Shifting Address

If you are shifting to an address that is still within the RBI network coverage, we can likely relocate your connection to your new location. Relocation costs will apply. If there is no coverage a disconnection fee may apply as per your contract terms.

What happens if I exceed my data cap?

You will be notified by email when you reach 80% and 100% of your data cap. Once you reach 100% you will begin incurring over usage charges.

 

You can increase your monthly plan’s data allocation for $15.00 /month per 10 GB.

Any monthly data change is for a minimum 2 month period.
You can increase your monthly data size by as many data increments as required.

If you exceed your monthly plan’s data allocation during any month and decide not to increase your monthly data size, you will incur automated data blocks at $1.75 per 1 GB on a per event basis.

You will be charged to the next GB data increment as listed above.

 

You will be provided with login details to check your usage on our “MY USAGE” portal. Please note it is solely your responsibility to keep track of your usage.

Changing Plan

You can change your plan, data, email, etc at any time during your contract term. Please note any change is for minimum one month period and partial month charges apply.

Just contact us to discuss your options and we can arrange it for you.

Static IP address

Yes, you can request a Static IP address on your Scorch RBI connection.

The cost is $10.00 /month.

Terrestrial Wireless Conversions

Are you an existing Scorch Terrestrial Wireless customer?

If you are already on our Terrestrial Wireless services and wish to migrate to an RBI based connection we can work with you to manage this transition. Please discuss your requirements with us and we can work with you for a solution.
